INFLUENCE OF LIBRARY ORIENTATION ON STUDENTS’ UTILIZATION OF LIBRARY INFORMATION RESOURCES IN UNIVERSTIES IN BENUE STATE

The study investigated the influence of library orientation on the utilization of library information resources by undergraduate students in universities in Benue state, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey design. The population of the study comprises 10,679 library registered second year-students (undergraduates) in the three universities in Benue state. The sample size for the study was 386 students who were selected using multi-stage sampling procedure. The instrument employed for data collection was self-questionnaire. The reliability of the questionnaire was established using Cronbach Alpha method and a reliability co-efficient of 0.94 was obtained. Data was collected and analyzed using means and standard deviation to answer the research questions and Chi-Square statistics to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study reveals that library orientation has significant influence on utilization of library information resources by undergraduate students in universities in Benue State. Recommendations were made that library orientation should be made compulsory in universities since it equips students necessary skills in the utilization of library information resources.
